Trump's Organization Sought to Bring In Nearly 200 Workers on Visas in 2025
The former president’s family business accelerated its recruitment of foreign workers on temporary visas this period, while his administration was creating barriers for other businesses wanting to do the same, a report released Thursday stated.
Based on information from the federal labor department, the Trump Organization aimed to hire at least nearly 200 foreign workers in 2025 for short-term roles at the former president’s Florida property, two golf clubs and his Virginia winery.
The quantity of requests for temporary work visas covering workers including waitstaff, clerks, cleaning staff, kitchen staff and farm workers was the record submitted by the company, and up from over 120 in 2021, when his presidency ended.
It was also the fifth instance in 10 years that Trump had attempted to hire over a hundred foreign employees for seasonal jobs at his Florida resort, based on labor statistics.
The disclosure comes amid a crackdown on immigration laws by his government that has included the implementation of a substantial charge on skilled worker visas; increased review of the actions of the 55 million people who possess US visas; and tighter regulations for foreign students and reporters.
Overall, the Trump Organization sought to employ over 560 overseas workers over the period Trump has been in the presidency, from his first term and during the upcoming year.
Significantly, the former president was questioned by some in the GOP this week for comments defending the need for overseas employees when a company was unable to find people with “particular skills” to occupy particular roles.
“You cannot just say a nation is coming in, going to spend $10bn to construct a plant, and going to recruit individuals off an unemployment line who haven’t worked in five years, and they’re going to start making their defense systems. It isn’t feasible that well,” he stated to a interviewer after she suggested that overseas employees lower the wages of US workers.
The White House declined a request for comment, and the Trump Organization did not immediately respond to an request for information.
