Tributes Pour In for Rob and Michele Reiner as Medical Examiner's Findings Remain Under Wraps.
Well beyond 14 days following the shocking loss of esteemed filmmaker Rob Reiner and his partner, photographer Michele Reiner, friends and colleagues are still paying respects to the couple.
Quoting a Classic: Cary Elwes Remembers His Director
Posting on Instagram, actor Cary Elwes, who was featured in Reiner's beloved 1987 film *The Princess Bride*, mentioned he finally felt able to share openly about his personal sorrow.
"Sufficient time has elapsed that I can at last express my sorrow into words," posted Elwes, noting that his initial encounter with Reiner made him fall in love. "When we commenced spending more time together I knew this was someone I longed to have in my life."
The actor uploaded behind-the-scenes footage from the movie, commenting that he cannot recall "a single day without laughter".
"The movie is about affection, allegiance and giving. Principles that Rob held dear. This is one of the many reasons he was the best person to helm it," Elwes continued.
He went on to praise Michele Reiner, saying: "To say that they were a incredible duo would be an understatement. My heart still aches every time I recall you." He finished with a phrase from *The Princess Bride*: "Indeed, death cannot stop true love but existence is agony without you."
Martin Scorsese Recalls a Fellow Artist
In a distinct essay, legendary director Martin Scorsese paid homage to Reiner, whom he initially encountered in the 1970s.
"From the start, I loved being with Rob. We had a innate rapport for each other. He was uproarious and sometimes sharply witty, but he was never the kind of guy who would dominate the room," Scorsese said.
Scorsese pointed out Reiner's cameo appearance in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, embodying the father of the main character.
"He was skilled at improv with the best. He was a virtuoso at comedy, he worked wonderfully with the cast, and he understood the personal struggle of his character," Scorsese added.
Legal Developments: Autopsy Reports Restricted
Recently, a Los Angeles judge agreed to bar the release of the Reiners' medical examiner's reports, at the request from the LAPD.
A legal directive put a security hold on the cases to restrict the public release of "any investigative information, notes, reports or photos" connected to the ongoing investigation.
The coroner's office had earlier stated their deaths were the result of murder, with a public database listing the cause as "multiple sharp force injuries".
Aftermath and Reactions
In the wake of the tragedy, public figures offered different responses.
Ex-President Donald Trump posted on the matter, providing controversial claims that were broadly criticized by several commentators.
Podcaster Joe Rogan lent his voice to the critics recently. Speaking on his program, Rogan labeled the remarks as "disappointing" and suggested they demonstrated a troubling absence of compassion.
Rogan concluded by proposing that an adviser could have acted when the decision to weigh in on the tragedy was made.
