Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Claims Connected to Player Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise released a comment on Wednesday evening stating they are aware of domestic violence allegations made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and had been in contact with the NFL.
The team omitted the name of Rice specifically in their statement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Posted on Instagram
The woman, who also did not mention the athlete by name, shared a series of photos on Instagram that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has kids with the football player, whom the Chiefs drafted in the 2023 draft.
Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File
No police reports were available in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Player's Recent Off-Field Troubles
Rice was absent for the first six games of this season due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left several individuals injured. Rice was given 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to felony charges.
On the field, Rice finished the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a decade.
